On Sunday, 27 August 2023, the most prominent figures of international law gathered in Angers (France), under the High Patronage of Mr. Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Institut de Droit International (IDI).

The International Arbitration Institute (IAI) had the honour of acting as sponsor for the Opening cocktail in memoriam of IAI's former President, the late Professor Emmanuel Gaillard.

Shortly before his passing in 2021, Professor Gaillard had accepted the invitation to join the Institut de Droit International, with a view to contributing to the Institut's efforts to promote the progress of international law.

Professor Alain Pellet, the President of the Institut de Droit International, and Dr. Yas Banifatemi, the President of the IAI, each paid tribute to Professor Gaillard and his significant contributions to international law and international arbitration.

The International Arbitration Institute (IAI) is pleased to announce that its 2022 Conference will be held on 9 December 2022 in honour of the late Professor Emmanuel Gaillard.

The Conference will take place in Paris, at the Salon Gustave Eiffel, on the first floor of the Eiffel Tower.

Professor Gaillard launched and presided over the IAI for 20 years and is the individual with whom the mission and spirit of the Institute will always be most closely linked. The theme for the 2022 IAI Conference (“Transparency in International Arbitration”) has been selected as a tribute to the life and work of Professor Gaillard, who devoted his professional life to promoting transparency, diversity, and accessibility in the field of international arbitration.
