On Sunday, 27 August 2023, the most prominent figures of international law gathered in Angers (France), under the High Patronage of Mr. Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Institut de Droit International (IDI).

The International Arbitration Institute (IAI) had the honour of acting as sponsor for the Opening cocktail in memoriam of IAI's former President, the late Professor Emmanuel Gaillard.

Shortly before his passing in 2021, Professor Gaillard had accepted the invitation to join the Institut de Droit International, with a view to contributing to the Institut's efforts to promote the progress of international law.

Professor Alain Pellet, the President of the Institut de Droit International, and Dr. Yas Banifatemi, the President of the IAI, each paid tribute to Professor Gaillard and his significant contributions to international law and international arbitration.
